  • The Retro Text: Snail Mail

    By Theresa Christine

There’s something about snail mail that just makes me one of the happiest people. It’s a little one-of-a-kind gift in the mailbox intended to brighten someone’s day, and the only thing that makes me happier than receiving something fun in the mail is sending it. Communication today is pretty easy. You stare at your computer screen and type up an email or text someone back on your smartphone. I’m glad we have that technology, of course, and I use it all the time. But it makes physical messages like letters and postcards that have traveled that distance extra special. Continue sending “life update” emails and “I love you” texts, but take the time to get back in touch with old-school communication. It’s not only super awesome for the person receiving your note, but it’ll make you feel amazing, too.

If you’re looking for a little inspiration, you’ve got it right here. Now mail to your little heart’s content!

    * Get some postcards from a favorite local attraction (like the Botanical Gardens or a quirky tourist spot), write about your day there, and mail to an old friend

    * Sign up for Postcrossing, where you’ll get to send and receive postcards from strangers all around the world. The more you send the more you receive!

    * Mail a love letter, and sign off with a kiss (red lipstick mandatory, you minx).

haveheartmagazine.com* Go shopping with one of your friends in mind, and buy anything that you think he or she would like or something that reminds you of that person. It doesn’t have to be expensive–even a dollar store or the bargain bins in Target will do! Package them up and send in a Priority Mail flat-rate box.

    * Use a postcard app, like Lettr or Postagram to send your own photos from your phone to loved ones. This is perfect for grandparents who aren’t on Facebook and still want to see updated photos of the family!

    * Go to a photobooth, write on the back of the photo strip, and send it away in an envelope.

    * Check out a fancy stationery store and buy some beautiful paper and envelopes. There’s nothing more motivating than a beautiful new set of letters to send

    * Once you’ve finished reading a book, send it to someone who you think will enjoy it (Media Mail is crazy cheap for sending books!).

    * Check out the unique and funny cards some Etsy sellers have. Pick the most R-rated one and send to your boo-thang.

    * Send an “I’m thinking of you” letter–the best letter there is.

    Choose Your Sign:
Maybe you will not stand up for yourself strenuously enough. It`s not a very self-assertive kind of energy around. So if you`re normally timid, this will tend to push you into a corner. You just disappear off into daydreams, which can be great in itself but staying in touch with reality will help as well. Luckily Jupiter will help you pick up new information, meet new people, and generally stay in the swing of things.
